Along Bremweg I have noticed some Roman snails, ๐ป๐๐๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐๐ก๐๐. These are the Escargot de Bourgogne which seems rather apt, given the site of the 14th/15th century Haras de Antoine de Bourgogne is not far.

These snails have a preference for calcium-bearing substrate - think walls. They need it for their shells, but with the Forest being generally acidic, the snails shouldnโt be thriving. But they are.

Many plant species have spread through a country following the train tracks and, looking down, I saw that Bremweg is a reinforced path, and may well be where they are getting their calcium from.
I suspect that away from the path there wouldnโt be as many, but checking that by foot is, well, frowned upon.
