The heat continues and the hedgerows along the edge of the Forest absorb some of it. If you are mindful enough to not just walk past with your attention diverted but willing to feel, inhale and engage, this is a special time.
And it’s not just the vegetation contributing to the differing textures of the air, the ground is too. The scent changes rapidly from the petrichor after a rain shower to be greener, more dusty, slightly resinous even. There remains dampness in the shade, reflected heat on the paths. There is transition.
It is midsummer.
