The Forest holds memories. Some are marked by a stone, others by a Tree or the traces of something that has almost disappeared.
On Wednesday 11 November, join me for a walk exploring some of these reminders of people and events woven into the history of the Forêt de Soignes.
From Roche Bobois on the Chaussée de Waterloo, we will take the Sentier de la Petite Espinette towards the Drève de Lorraine. Along our route we will encounter the Marc De Ridder memorial and a surviving trace of the short-lived Forest railway, before following the Sentier de Vuylbeek and the Sentier des Bouleaux towards the Foresters’ Memorial.

At around 11 o’clock, those who wish can join in a minute’s silence.
Our return along Grasdelle will take us past stones commemorating Belgium’s 75th and 100th anniversaries, the remains of a bouquet jubilaire, a commemorative planting, and the Crahay Oak. We will consider what these places remember, and what remains when their stories begin to fade.
The walk is approximately 6 km, leaving from beside Roche Bobois at 9.30 a.m. and finishing around noon.
There is no charge. Private donations to Felis Felis are welcome.
The group is limited to 12 walkers. Please book by email to bob@bobwalks.eu.
