These heavy, drooping clusters of translucent scarlet berries are indicative of the Guelder Rose.
But itโs not a rose; it does have rose-like white flowers but the berries really arenโt hip.
A cultivated form was developed in the eponymously named province, but the wild one is native, a regular feature of our hedgerows. The fruits are not first, succulent pickings for birds, but, later in the year, should winter take an unlikely turn, they will take them gladly enough.
