The weather was against my first โentre chien et loupโ twilight walk in the Forest. Drizzle, chill and breeze. We must be thankful really, such conditions have helped prevent damaging forest fires over the centuries, the beech leaf ground cover being much less flammable than pine needles. This is a damp place, and even more so over the centuries.
So I thought to look back to what I was posting about this time last year. It was the white campion, ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ก๐๐๐๐๐๐, gloriously named in Dutch as avondkoekoeksbloem, or the evening cuckoo flower.
It was a shame that I didnโt get the chance yesterday to take a group into the Forest, it would have been a fitting encounter.
They come to life as the dusk gathers, releasing scent for the long-tongued evening moths, glowing faintly along the path edges.
Oh well, they flower for months. Weโll go a-hunting anew next week.
