By one of the étangs at Groenendaal bees were dipping their proboscides into this nectar-rich vetchling’s flowers.

But which vetchling? 𝐿𝑎𝑡ℎ𝑦𝑟𝑢𝑠 𝑠𝑦𝑙𝑣𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑠? It was within the Forest boundary. Or perhaps the rarer 𝐿. 𝑝𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑠, the Marsh Pea.
I’ll go back tomorrow and, so I’m informed, count the pairs of leaflets, see how winged (flattened) the stem is and how many flowers are borne on each stalk.
Some people might think I have too much time on my hands, but the truth is I have enough time on my hands for what I think matters.
