Fungi are interesting diversions but rarely startling. There are exceptions, of course, but many take a back seat, scarcely noted.
The Funnels are an odd group, with splendid names. One such is the Trooping Funnel, so called because it can spread in regimental lines through and across the Forest floor. Here we have a Clouded Funnel. It doesn’t line up, perhaps it is a jaeger Funnel, fungal light infantry.

Easy to pass by, unnoticed.
My wife, Marie-Rose, told me of her childhood in the Ardennes, near Vielsalm. For a few years she used to gather field mushrooms from the cowfield to the rear of the family house. Field to pan in minutes for breakfast. Then they stopped appearing.
Picking too many fungi before their spore-releasing prime can hold them in check, possibly discouraging them in that locality. We know little of their mycelial collective, their lust for life.
