Continuing from yesterday, let’s give a shout out to Redshanks! The pink flower spike and red-leggy stems are a giveaway. The leaf blotches have been interpreted variously as the Virgin Mary's thumbprints or drops of Christ’s blood.

Not an edible, the plant saw some medicinal use as an astringent and for treating minor wounds and digestive complaints.
French and Dutch speak of the leaves’ resemblance to those of a peach. In English, ‘shanks’ means ‘legs’.
