Yesterday I was once again up on the old racecourse at Groenendaal, this time planning a treasure hunt for some students. There are countless flowers there, many I’ve seen in previous years. But this one, not.

Two specimens have emerged from either dormancy or carrier bird. I think this is Hedge Bedstraw, 𝐺𝑎𝑙𝑖𝑢𝑚 𝑚𝑜𝑙𝑙𝑢𝑔𝑜, related to Lady’s Bedstraw, the sweetly scented herbal stuffing of yesteryear.
