Do you believe in coincidence?
This is yellow rocket or wintercress, but in Dutch and French the genus name is recalled. Gewoon barbarakruid or Barbarée commune.
It is named for Saint Barbara, Barbarea.
Barbara herself, as legend has it, was imprisoned in a tower by her father who was against her conversion to Christianity. His ire not satisfied, he executed her himself.
A lightning bolt took care of him.
This explosive end made Barbara the patron saint of those in peril of like destruction - miners, artillerymen and sappers.
Coincidentally, the plant likes broken, disturbed ground, such as bomb sites.
Latterly she has become the patron saint of astronauts.
It’s called rocket.
